In the past few weeks, the writing has been on the wall that Antonio Conte would soon leave his role as Tottenham Hotspur manager and the only question was just when. The results on the pitch have not been pleasant and his falling out with players in a public outburst after the 3-all draw with Southampton further escalated tensions between him and the club hierarchy.

Tottenham have released a statement on their website announcing Conte’s departure by mutual consent, thanked him for his contribution and wished him the best in future.

“We can announce that Head Coach Antonio Conte has left the Club by mutual agreement. We achieved Champions League qualification in Antonio’s first season at the Club. We thank Antonio for his contribution and wish him well for the future,” the statement reads in part.

In the same statement, Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy called upon the players and everyone involved at the club to step up and make sure they finish this season in the highest position possible.

“We have 10 Premier League games remaining and we have a fight on our hands for a Champions League place. We all need to pull together. Everyone has to step up to ensure the highest possible finish for our club and amazing, loyal supporters,” Levy said.

In charge for only 16 months, Conte leaves Tottenham in fourth on the Premier League table with 49 points in 28 matches and out of all the other cup competitions. Conte has overseen 76 matches in the Tottenham dugout, won 40, drew 13, and lost 23.

Cristian Stellini will take the team as acting Head Coach for the remainder of the season, along with Ryan Mason as Assistant Head Coach.
