She wants to commit suicide!

Close to a month ago, our housemaid got involved in a terrible accident at night, when she was playing silly games with her boyfriend. At first it didn't sound like a serious one because a heavy car stepped on her foot and got badly injured! We found that the damage got really serious when part of her left leg was amputated! Oh my God, that was quite a shock!
Ok it's not like we made that decision, she made the decision herself. She signed on the consent papers in the hospital, something almost everybody thinks she shouldn't have done but the doctors. The doctors told her that if they didn't, the leg would rot and she'd get a cancer, in our absence.
What we think is that the doctors were looking for their own easy way, not the way that'd benefit the girl. So what happened finally happened, and we can't take it back.

That's not what I actually wanted to write about. What I really wanted to write about is that she now wants to commit suicide. Before all this crap got into her silly head, she seemed quite moving on well with the medication and the whole healing process. Probably because her boyfriend would visit her sometimes, her friends would call her sometimes, and the pain wasn't really much.
But here we are! She feels like her life is getting sadder, the walls are getting closer, the nights longer with little sleep, tears won't just stop coming from her eyes. The pain killers finally got outta the amputation so now she feels the pain as live as ever! Her boyfriend has taken three weeks without visiting, he's not even answering her calls. The friends that used to call her for sympathy and maybe empathy, no longer call her. She feels like she's alone. And it hurts you know! I mean seeing other people getting on with their lives and you're just there not even sure what your life is all about. Truth is, even before the accident, she was literally alone but that's a story for another day.

We've tried to let her know that this isn't the end of the world, as there are soo many other people going through even worse situations. And my grannie is trying to tell her to put her faith in God, as it's He who gives and takes.
Just so you may know, my grannie is a staunch Protestant! She says 5 words and 3 of those have something to do with God.
Our housemaid is called Mercy, only 18yrs of age, from western Uganda. Before all this, she was a jolly little girl, too talkative and would laugh at almost everything, even at something as small as saying hi.
But now all that is gone. She rarely laughs, all she talks about is how she's darned, wishing that she'd have died on the spot of the accident. And it's quite sad!

Despite the fact that her education is quite low, having stopped in S. 2, she had all these dreams of becoming a very successful lady with loads of wealth at her disposal. But she's lost hope. She thinks she'll never make it. She sees the world in black and white, no colour(got that from a song, Aha).
She wonders about very many things among which include who's gonna fall in love with her, now that she's disabled. I also have to mention that the driver of the truck that caused the accident accepted to buy her an artificial limb and clutches once the remainder of the leg completely heals. But she feels even that is quite useless.

So my grannie has tried comforting her and telling her that death isn't the solution to her worries, only staying strong and praying to God will help, but by the look of things, it didn't do her any good. So she warned her that she can NEVER, EVER commit suicide in her home because it'd bring badluck to her. And as I write this, she's laying on the couch crying, and my grannie speechless.

So, there we are.
