I'm not sure whether I'll vote for Museveni in the coming elections, but I'm 100% sure I can never vote for John Patrick Amama Mbabazi. Another thing I'm not sure of is whether some Ugandans rooting for the latter are forgetful, forgiving or just stupid! I mean in the previous 10 years or so, Amama Mbabazi has been the backbone of almost every corruption case that's been in the government. Not that the former is 100% innocent of the same, but atleast he's not done it so openly.
You see, some Ugandans are so blinded by the fact that they want(not even need) change, that they seem to have forgotten what a very corrupt man Amama is. He's been consistently linked to corruption scandals. During the preparation of the 2007 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting(CHOGM), that guy shamelessly baptized himself “Inspector General Chogm”, which was non existent and so interfered with the work of the organizing committee, turning Chogm into the corruption scandal it was. Mbabazi, according to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chogm Audit Report of May 2010, inflated the cost of procuring the Terrestrial Trunked Radio facility from $3.2million to $ 5 million, and connived with other parties to pocket the change. PAC actually established that the cost of the facility “should not have exceeded US $ 2 million.”
Barely a year after CHOGM, Amama Mbabazi allegedly used his power as security minister to force the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) to buy his land at Temangalo at an exorbitant price, seizing shillings 11 billion of workers’ savings. For God's sake that was workers' savings. The money deducted from our little salaries to prepare for our retirement. That guy, with the help of a few top dogs in government swindled it. A parliamentary probe into the fraudulent transaction established that Mbabazi, and the then Finance Minister by then, Ezra Suruma, had violated the leadership code, influenced NSSF to buy the land and engaged in a transaction in which their personal interests clashed with the public interest. Sadly, the probe report was dismissed on unclear grounds and the prime perpetrator, as usual, walked away untouched.
As if that wasn't enough, talk of the recent OPM scandal, where also, a lot of money in billions went missing, and when asked about it he frankly said he had no idea how his office lost that money. Like seriously??? A man that couldn't step aside from his office to allow just weeks of investigation shouldn't be trusted with power. He managed to do all that because he was being sheltered by his boss(The President), but just imagine what more he can do he's the supreme power of the state. Ugandans should not be blinded by the need for change, although right now he looks like the strongest opponent to the incumbent, we need to understand that he just doesn't have the moral integrity to lead us. At least we've seen the way he behaves with the tax payers' money when he's just a minister.
Dear Ugandans, have we forgotten this fast?? I can see many of you promoting Amama Mbabazi simply because he's opponent to the president, and you say you want change. No. This guy wants power to protect what he's stolen from us(I'm actually listening to Mubbi bubbi by Maro & David Lutalo as I write this part, lol. Coincedence??). Seriously though, changing from H.E Museveni to Amama Mbabazi is like being cured of HIV and getting infected with Cancer or even worse, Ebola. But we have the power to stop that. Just take a moment and reflect. Think Ugandans, THINK!!
